Leukocyte reduced does that mean cmv negative
hi dear friends of BBTalk i am back, being away for a while for not receiving Pathtalk for a few months. Now i have it but somehow they are sent to " spam" .It's ok, i just go from there. Thanks for the clarification of " CMV negative and leukopoor products" Just want to mention a little bit about CMV neg at our facility: - when being asked "is the unit CMV neg, " our answer is : the unit is leukopoor, CMV neg is taken care. All units are leukopoor here. - our blood supply (blood and platelets) has some units that are CMV neg , we never order or request CMV neg -for oncology patients, we use irradiated products if the dr orders Also thanks to Cliff for helping me to restore Pathtalk

Can anyone explain these 2 FDA reportable scenarios?
i am not knowledgeable about FDA reportable but i have this happened to me: 1/ i have a patient with a negative antibody screen; the DAT was accidentally performed that day and was positive. When i asked the referral lab wether to send the sample for an elution, they told me ,'there's no need, why did you do the DAT"?.i am confused but i did what they told me .. 2/ for Ag type unit: if we use the 0.8% cell suspension for doing qc (pos and neg) instead of the 3% cell susp (the unit has been dispensed), is it an FDA reportable? (Next day, the qc has been redone with the 3% and it was the same) . There was no any harm /effect or change on the unit. Any explanation would be appreciated. thanks

sbb
thank you all for your suggestions to my sbb questions. however, i still have some. 1/for those who said they can pass the exam without working in the reference lab or even not having to work there, i don't know how you can handle it? When solving panels , you should know at least how they work, right, how one thing leads to another, whta the next step you should take.. 2/ where and how can i get to the website where i can sign up to study by myself and get to the exam ?what are the requirements? 3/how can i buy the "Blood group antigens facts" and "passing the exam the 1st time" from Volars? thank you vey much.

Sbb questions
Hi everybody i am in the SBB program , i have been reading threads in Path Lab Talk for a couple of months(7-8) and i find it very interesting. i just have some questions for those who already passed the Sbb and those who are taking it: - i don't know how to ''do" a research project. i don't have anybody who can help me (even though i have a mentor) , what to do to start , what i need.. -i would like to know if a person (like me)who never works in a reference lab can pass a SBB (even i have a background in BB, and also work in BB but do not deal much with panels,,,) i study hard but i don't know if i can make it. Please give me some advice.i really appreciate. thanks shirleybjp
