Potassium Levels in Stored Red Blood Cells
Yes indeed Dave, however, as the article states and compared to the literature the level of K+ even for an irradiated unit was much too elevated for the age of the unit. Based on the AABB, etc, one can have the unit in storage for up to 28 days after irradiation or until expiry which ever comes first. Following this incident, we now irradiate inhouse just before release.

Recontituted Red Blood Cells
We irradiate in-house after reconstitution. I suppose you could label as RBCs: irradiated, but thats me not FDA. Never thought of this one either. Interesting. The important think is safety and sounds safe, but the labeling is tricky.

Whole Blood Transport from mobile drives
What do you use to make components? An Atreus or manually? If manually, how large is the centrifuge(s) that you use? and how many units do you draw on an average at the drives?

Automation type in Europe?
Over a year has passed and there must be more news about updated Gel Station and experience with the Immucor Neo. So, I am back with the questions: 1. Immucor Neo or Diamed Gel Station, which one is better for a 400 bed tertary (see quaternary) care medical center? 2. What are the problems faced with the Neo and with the Gel Station? 3. Are there any comparative studies? 4. Is the Gel Station (now BioRad) FDA approved? Thank you. Merry Christmas!!

Dry Labs!
You know what is best in your given situation. However, one word of caution: Be aware of internal politics. One does not know and cannot understand who is protecting who, and who dislikes who, and the "whys" and it goes on and on...

The name of FFP after 1 year of storage
Is this not correct, we call it "Banked Plasma" (historically)... "Plasma a) Plasma removed from liquid whole blood between 24 hours after collection and up to five days after the expiration of the whole blood unit Product is stored frozen (see “Liquid Plasma” below) at < -18C for up to 5 years (1) Note that FFP not used within 1 year can be re-labeled as “plasma” and kept up to 5 years from original collection date.
