Sorvall Cell Washer Plus
I just unpacked my new Sorvall Cell Washer Plus and there is a warning not to use plastic tubes. We have been using plastic tubes in our old Sorvalls for years. I called their customer support and I was told that this does not leave a dry cell button so plastic should not use. Now I have 2 concerns; do I want a washer that does not leave a dry cell button and if I do will the plastic tubes be OK. Has anyone had this experience?

Thawer pockets
I agree, we repair until they become dry and crack often.

Thawer pockets
Are you looking for something cheaper? We are happy with the ones from them.

Soft Bank
I can add, for TAT for T/S in under management-> tests not done in time (that is after you have defined your benchmark).

Document Control System
I can add one more. We use iPassport. It is a lot to set up but after that it is great. Our general lab was cited for document control from CAP and I was given this project. We are going to be inspected any day so I am anxious to show them.

Std 8.2 #11 28th edition
We do have our results defined along with the other departments. This seems like we are to check the Hematology/Coag critical results before and after transfusion. Our quality management department does monitor transfusions and all critical values but does not put them together. Anyone have any ideas?

Re-enter of a unit once it has been transferred out of facility.
We use Soft and it does the same, just puts it for redelivery. I am almost positive it is fine since that donor number is unique, but would be interested in others comments.

inexplicable reactions on Ortho VRA168 cells 8 & 10
We are using screen VS 539 and II 1+ Pos. Our patient was negative 2/20/12 and now probably a K and another unexpected 1+ on #2 cell. The other patient had a know FYa.

Cord blood testing in gel
Do you have a procedure for Weak D in Gel that you could share?

Cord blood testing in gel
We have great luck with them as well. We take a small portion of the cleanest cells we can get and centrifuge it and take the top portion of those cells and put that in the testing tube.

Stat Turn Around Times
We achieve <60 minutes 98% of the time from receipt of an unspun specimen.

Document Control
We pruchased one as well. It is called iPassport. It seems like the way to go although it is a lot to set up it works very well.
-
Rpeat Testing
We do not repeat the ABO/Rh when doing additional units. We have set Soft Bank to require the armband number from the original specimen when crossmatching. This assures that we have chosen the specimen that was tested originally. It will also alert us when an IgG crossmatch is indicated.

Emergency Release Form for Physician Signature
Ours is on the Emergency Release Transfusion Record that accompanies each unit so one for each unit.

Ortho Fetalscreen kit and weak control
The insert says you can spin for up to 45" on the final spin. That has been working for us.

SOP for temperature monitoring system
I am interested as well, especially for alarm tests. We are validating and I put the system probe into a cup of ice and the temp went up????
-
CAPA and SOP management systems
We are just starting to use iPassport. It is hard to learn but very controlled.

IS Crossmatch with Gel IgG Crossmatch
Thanks that is just what I wanted to hear and we have built a test in Soft Bank to include both phases. I don't understand what all of the talk is about using electronic crossmatch for ABO confirmation when using Gel but I am confident we are both on the right track (even if we don't agree with the principle).

IS Crossmatch with Gel IgG Crossmatch
That part I get, in fact I started this discussion about a month ago. We are just starting the IS crossmatch along with our Gel. The part I don't understand is how to use electronic crossmatch instead of the IS when the patient has an antibody and does not qualify for electronic crossmatch. Keep in mind I am obviously just in the thinking stage of electronic crossmatch.
