  2. Regulations should be the same. I'd start with a 2 fold approach. Make sure manuals are correct and techs are actually following procedures as written. Read the HR manual and always use the HR people when doing any disciplinary action. Most new supervisors were promoted for their technical skills, so you have a lot of people to draw from. I live by the management theory that what is rewarded is repeated. It really helps to hear you are doing a good job and we too often let the 10% of problem childred distract us from the fact that 90% of our employees really care about their patients, jobs, and peers. Plus, it helps to keep a big bag of chocolate in your office.
  3. Our hospital requires national certification be it ASCP, NCA, or AMT. Older tech like me who passed a national certification are not required to continue membership, but are expected to continue continuing education.
  4. We only do Rh on babies born to Rh negative mothers.
  5. Yes, we use a separate blood bank ID bracelet. We also use a waiver form for pre-testing up to a week before surgery. Part of that form is patient consent to wear bracelet until discharged after their surgery and a statement that if they remove bracelet they will have to be redrawn and will be charged for second workup.
