  1. Yes, there was an older thread along these lines. The gist was time limits for FBS after delivery. I always thought the package insert trumped AABB, FDA or any other source.
  2. Cord bloods are often 4-6 hours old before getting to our BB. Which raises the question of mothers who need a fetal bleed screen. The package insert says test the mother at least one hour after delivery but as soon as possible after that. At 10 or more hours is the fetal bleed screen less sensitive or even invalid?
  3. All labs in my experience do KB stain in hematology or send it out.
  4. Don't we have a resource right here? David gave his institution's C/T ratio. Ours ranges from 1.1. to 1.3. Pick some data we are already compiling, put it in a standard format and share.
  5. We give a segment to hematology where the Sickledex is used the same as for a patient.
  6. Same for techs. Physicians' input is via computer ordering.
  7. We type one sample twice if there is no history on file. As to armbands, how is a unique BB number assigned to the patient if not on a BB armband?
  8. We use INNOCAL out of Vernon Hills, IL, annually.
  9. Hold orders are not allowed. In my experience 2 out of 3 blood banks have the Hold option.
