please can someone share their method how to do titer for O group platlets and what their policy miss match platelets issue . thank you

when discontinued donation happed . at our hospital donation center we still contine to test the blood specimen from this donore for all the rest reqiured for rest of donors. i wonder if other are doing same ? cause we are doing something useless since the unit is discointued ? any benifit from doing so . may be just keep record for this donor ?

i agree with you totally . just sometime in holiday or vacation is hard to find donors. i am thiking if we can get doctors or nuses for walking donors . we will test them but want to save the time. to send out to virology lab and waite a day for release. i heard we can do that with plalatelts pharises donor to test one time valid for a month .but why we cannot do same wiht PRBC donors ?

i will get all these books . but i cannot find a good book to revewi my math . i saw some review quistion . i dont think i can do the calculation for molarity and propablity in these question are difficult for me . please recomend a book to review my math .

sorry my quesiton is not clear . after reading the post about how to prepare for SBB exam. i am motivated to read from now and prepare for the SBB some day in the future hopfully :tongue: SBB defintely my ultimate goal . i want to learn all about blood bank with all of your help here. you are the best truly . i read the section with some math in exam review i have no idea, i forgot all about math and how to calculate propaliblity ..molarity . please advise me any nice book to refrensh my math other. our policy we check the unrin color . our issue complete crossmatch with gellcard after panel we phenotype the units for the antidbodiy identified. but i do worry if there is any new antibodies ? we cannto phenotype patient when recived trainsfusion every month.

i am looking for information about walking donor . is new for us . i like to know what is AABB rule in this . i need to know the regulation and guildlines to recrute walking donors. please share your expreince dealing with walking donors

the problem in blood bank we dont get the complete picture . they will fill in the request anemia only if sickle or thalassema will mention but if someone with many other illness wont be mentioned . so is there a test can tell me for sure that Hgb drop really realted to transfusion reaction ?due to what we issue to them ? i heard once the doctor said because we are giving them old blood so the hgb is dropping with his patient ! for me i just wnat to know that we didnot cuase any delay transfusion reaction

how do we know for sure when Hgb of patient is droped after transfused 3 untis a week ago . the patient has multiple antibodies transfused regularly . Hgb droped from 10 to 5 !! DAT is not always positive. i like to know which biochemistry test tell me there is hemolysis . but how can we rule out other bleeding due to other illness ? confused

i am glad you feel this way , cause if they dont know much about blood bank but everytime doctor will decide everything ! we have to explain to them but they dont wnat to listen to a med tech they only listen to doctor like them

at hospital where i work, patient in oncology ward get irradiated blood product . but when patient transfer to SICU or MICU or in operation room .the doctor or nurses there will not request for irradiated porduct any more > some time we remember the patient name wil ask them if they want irradiated . my questions; 1- is this blood bank job to remind the nurses and continued issue the pateint irradiated blood or is the job or doctor . 2- when patient stop using irradiated blood then when they go back to oncology ward they will go back to use irradiated product . any side effect or will not affect them ??

our blood bank give ED 4 units of PRBC O+ they use them wihtout informing us . only when they come to get replacemnet units every week we will know they use the units already. the bad thing one time we could not get the correct blood group beause patient was transfused before they took the speicemen to blood bank. not all doctor will get the unxmacth units they usually call blood bank for unxmatch units so they signe the form.

i like to know what other donor center policy regarding sickele postiive unit . also G6PD deficint donor . what about the platlets and plasma product . is it ok to use it
