  1. I'll have to pass to the next person to post a question--I'm leaving for vacation soon and have no time right now to look up something good! Have a great week, all, and see you next weekend!
  2. ^^I'll venture a guess, too--I found in Peter Issit, chapter 29 that it looks like Salis was the original/historic name for Indian-b, and that the reason it doesn't cause HDN is the possibility that anti-Inb can be absorbed by placental tissue?
  3. ^^Yay! I got it right! Here's the next question: What stimuli could be responsible for a naturally-occurring Anti-M?
  4. ^^I'll try Malcolm's question: Because of the actions of Decay Accellerating Factor and complement where the DAF blocks a complement mediated attack on fetal red cells, causing Cromer antibodies to be able to be recovered from the placenta but not the RBC's, thus showing the decrease of the antibody in the blood? (see link below--I think I managed to summarize what I found there--lol!) http://a1881.g.akamai.net/7/1881/26640/v0001/redcross.download.akamai.com/26640/pubs/immuno/21_2_05.pdf
  5. Oooh! Oooh! Me, me me! *raises hand* I'm human, too! So given that we're all humans here and not primates, even though both species exhibit ABO groups in their blood, that leads to the next question for this thread: After watching the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnqVbcEb8AU Are we as humans, any more closely related to primates other than blood groups?? :D:D (Come on now, the answer isn't that hard!! LOL)
  6. Yes! I think this is where I found that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABO_blood_group_system
  7. Yay! I finally got one right--lol lol! Here's the next question: In addition to humans, what type of animal would you also find ABO blood groups in?
  8. Ok--I'll try to answer Fluffy's question: the tribe is the Jarawas? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffy_antigen_system
  9. If this is accurate, there's 21 and the year is 1955--that's where I got the info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_antigen_system
  10. Ok, I'll post the next question: How many antigens are in the Diego system and what year was the first one discovered?
  11. Heh! I pulled off the wig for good, since my hair has grown back. It's not quite long enough for my liking and I do look a bit like my Grandmother, but it seems to be growing fast!
  12. I think I actually misinterpreted the question--LOL! I went back and read it again and I must've taken the enzyme reference of "sensitive to" as being "enhanced by" instead of "neutralized" as intended. --Not that I would've had an easier time finding the answer, mind you, but oh well! (And also proof that I should not be taking quizzes and doing continuing education between the hours of 10pm and midnight--the brain starts to drift a little at that time frame!!!)
  13. Yeah, I figured I was grasping at straws--haven't done anything with enzymes, really, in my blood bank experience.
  14. Did anyone answer this one yet? If not, I'll venture a guess: Rh, Kidd and Lewis systems? Next question: In cases of TRALI, what does a person make antibodies against?
  15. So did we answer the latest question? If so, here's the next one: Of the following antibodies, which one or ones do not occur naturally, as in they don't appear without any known stimulus: M, Lewis-a (Lea), P1, Duffy-B (Fyb), N and Kpa ?
  16. I'm going to have to venture a guess and say "M" ?? Next Question: What antigen is not expressed in the Bombay phenotype?
  17. Don't feel bad----I actually have to look stuff up to be able to post a question--never mind the answers!! LOL LOL!
  18. Voila! : http://www.bloodbanktalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=27675#post27675
  19. Ok, let's have some fun and test our knowledge at the same time! I'll leave a blood bank question, and the next person to come along has to answer it then leave a question for the next person in their post, and so on. Here's the first one: What complement component is associated with the Chido-Rodgers antigen system?
  20. ^^Awww, we all love you, Malcolm! LOL! We could always start a game thread of sorts where you have to answer the blood bank question the person above you posted, then leave one for the next person that posts after you--could be fun and I know I'd have to most likely do research at times and look stuff up to be able to answer some things, since I'm currently dusting off the cobwebs in the Blood Bank sector of my brain!!
  21. WAy-2-go!! This one's for you:
  22. Brenda--try this website: http://www.medtraining.org/corpsite/ Where I work, we use this for twice per year competencies in all areas of the lab. They offer online quizzes that you can take and have good reading material to go along with the quizzes in each department. There's a lot on there for Blood Bank, too! Or you could just give all your employees passwords to this forum, and start a new thread called "Stump Malcolm" where they have to go head to head with him and see if they can beat him at a "Jeopardy" style, 20-questions sort of thing!!! LOL LOL!!
  23. ^^Oh, thanks! Was just curious in comparison to what we do at our facility. I sometimes wonder how we have passed inspections with some of the things I've found, after the fact. . .. not just in Blood Bank, but in all areas of the lab. Makes me wonder if I'm being too picky, or if something got overlooked (or in some cases, "hidden").
  24. What do you use, then, or what process is used if you need to rule out antibodies? What about multiple antibodies? Do you have a few different lot numbers of in-date reagents?
  25. ^^Thanks, Deny! I'm just catching up on my online reading, since I'm post-op and don't want to pop my stitches--lol! (Forum posting is about as non-strenuous as it gets!)
