cassinnc reacted to Eagle Eye in online group study for SBB examDo you know someone (your supervisor/director) who attended the meeting? Ask them they should have access to it. I do not see a reason for paying for it.
I might have just PPP, send me private e-mail if I have it I will send it to you.

cassinnc reacted to L106 in Albumin Alternative in Serofuge Caibration?I have two suggestions:
1. For saline-active antibodies: Find a patient whose plasma gives a 1+ reaction with the B Reverse Cells (so you won't have to dilute the patient's plasma with anything.) For high-protien antibodies: Would it work if you used "Rh Control Reagent" to dilute the Anti-D?
2. Beg or borrow a vial of Albumin from a fellow-hospital or your blood supplier?

cassinnc reacted to butlermom in Albumin Alternative in Serofuge Caibration? We have always used 6% albumin to perform annual serofuge calibrations. This reagent is no longer used in our blood bank and is only supplied as 10 vials per package (They would expire before I could use them all.) What other reagent(s) do others use for serofuge calibration?

cassinnc got a reaction from Auntie-D in Blood Bank Supervisor newbieI have been a BB supervisor for 15 years. One thing that has worked for me is to include the staff in the changes that you intend to make. Tell them your ideas and get their feedback. Sometimes they have good ideas that you may not have thought of. Another thing that has worked for me is to be a team player. Let the staff know that you are approachable. Always be willing to help when they really need you. If you show yourself as a team player, you will always have their help when you need to get projects done. " Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
As far as your family life, make sure you make time to enjoy your family. Your toddler will soon be in first grade and you will look back and wonder where did the time go. Do not take work home with you, if at all possible. Once you clock out, your time should be dedicated to you and your family. I wish I had done this. I tried so hard in the beginning to do the impossible and I have so many regrets.
For your CAP accreditation, take each checklist question and answer it with references from your SOP's, documents, and records. Have this documentation ready and available for your inspector. It will show that you are prepared and the inspector will not be so eager to find a problem area. If your facility is AABB accredited then you should be in good shape for a CAP inspection.
I hope all goes well for you! You made a great choice and it appears that you have a good support team.
Welcome to BB talk. This site offers great information!

cassinnc reacted to SMW in Competency Assessment DocumentationThe CFR has competency testing listed as the responsibility of the CLIA Technical Supervisor (see 42CFR493.1451 attached). Remember though for immunohematology testing, the Technical Supervisor must be a doctor (42CFR493.1449). So competency of immunohematology tests may be the responsibility of the medical director but other tests may not necessarily. Although 493.1451 assigns the responsibility to the Technical Supervisor it does not specifically state a signature requirement.
