  2. Is anyone out there using the BD Fortessa at all? Sarah
  3. Are you in a Blood Bank? I cannot imagine wanting a biohazardous object outside the lab; I surely would not want it in my house or office. Perhaps bloodborne pathogen training may be in order if theft occurs. '0 Sarah http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=STANDARDS&p_id=10051
  4. Three questions: 1. How would you discover the K ab? 2. This is my own ignorance - How many children were there? Which of the wives lived long enough to have more than one child. ;-O Sarah
  5. What did the techs do to break plastic tubes? Sarah
  6. Hi, Does anyone out there have experience (good or bad) with the BD Fortessa Flowcytometer? Have you validated CD34 on it? Thanks in advance for your response. Sarah
  7. Who would walk away with a lab thermometer? Why not use an Infrared Thermometer that is NIST Traceable? Does the Manufacturer only recommend calbration every 3 years? If so, that sounds great! Regards, Sarah
  8. Which instrument detects malaria? Sarah
  9. Thanks. I got it! Sarah
  10. Hi, I am looking for the catalog number and vendor for the little blue, plastic, disposable hemostats that are used in most blood banks and donor centers when preparing components or splitting units. They come in a case of 1000 ea. Thank you for your response. Sarah
  11. I believe that you can charge any reasonable fee as long as it is stated in the Consent for Storage. You should also spell out that any cost for shipping cells to another storage facility will be billed. Sarah Are you at MUSC or Roper?
  12. Hi cmv045, I guess it would depend on what do you need to connect - another bag or another product? Would a sterile weld be an option? Do you need a sample? It looks like you could use a Fenwal Sepacell Adapter with a male (spike) and two female access ports with that filter. Or, if you have a laminar floow hood, you could use a Syringe to Syringe connector by BBraun with a sterile cap. It has a male and a female connector and BBraun's red syringe caps can go either way (male or female). Of course, if you are "manufacturing" per FDA, you will have to validate this process. Sarah
  13. Hi Teresa, Have you thought about Microsoft's SharePoint? Sarah
  14. CFUs are usually report per 100,000 cells plated. You can make a dilution of 20,000 cells/ml and multiple the answer by five. Many people do that to make the plates readalbe. Sarah
  15. I have used Control Company, Innocal, and Fluke. Sarah
  16. I agree with KellPos. I do not want the clutter. The BBK rules, regs, QA, QC, validation, and standards are about all I can keep up with these days. Sarah
  17. LabTalk is the name of a e newsletter on the Lab Safety Supply: http://www.labsafety.com/refinfo/labtalkdefault.htm Sarah
  18. Hi, I was wondering if any one in the cord blood banking biz is requiring follow up on medical hisotry/status of mothers/donors of cord blood units? Thanks in advance for your response. Sarah
  19. I like the current name. There are other welll know pathology and lab sites. Patho-L and Medlab-L are both great Lists. Sarah
  20. Welcome QCDan. Where in Charleston? SC or WV?
  21. Dear MHC, You may want to check with the NYBC. They just presented at the cord blood licensure meeting in MD. They did some very elaborate pre and post move studies. I do not have a contact there. The speaker's name was Michael Zdanowski.
  22. Hey, Any body out there used a company called LabAnswer.com for help with selection and implementation of any kind of HCT/P software (Stem Lab, EdgeCell, or Emmes)? Pros or Cons? Many Thanks. Sarah Dickerson
  23. Dear Hodag, Are you simply doing a marrow aspirate for diagnostic purposes or, are you collecting marrow for transplant (you mentioned a bag). Usually, for a harvest, we rinse the syringes with heparin. After the physiscian has pulled several aspirates from the incision site, the marrow becomes diluted with peripheral blood. The Hct usually runs around 20-30% depending on the amount of isotonic media you have used in the collection bag. Sarah Dickerson
  24. Hi all, I am new to this list. Please forgive me if this post is redundant. I looked in the "reviews" section and I did not see much in the way of cellular therapy computer software. Would any of you be willing to share your thoughts on the following products - Stem Lab, EMMES, EdgeCell, or Core Informatics? We are a stand alone facility without an LIS so no Meidware or Meditech, etc. Likes or dislikes? Interfaces with lab instruments and outside testing vendors? Reports? Paperless system? ISBT friendly? Tracking? Supply Inventory? Flexibility and adaptability? Are there other products I am missing? I feel the system must include donor history and follow up, product history, and laboratory. I appreciate your comments. Thanks. Sarah Cord Blood Laboratory Manager
  25. Manoj, What are you planning on freezing - HPC-C, HPCA, or HPCM? A lot depends on the bag, product volume, and the freeze meduim. Your mfr. should be able to help. Sarah
