  1. A couple more myh perpetuating scenes from St. Elsewhere, (if any of you are old enough to remember it). First, the Chief of Staff of a 500 bed hospital is showing a foreign counterpart a modern hospital lab including a state of the art hematology analyzer - a Coulter Z. Second, ER doc screams for four units O neg thpe and crossed on a patient just wheeled. Nurse rushes out and returns 1 minute later with the four units.
  2. We were happy to have a recently trained neonatist join the staff at our rural hospital many years ago. Upon the arrival of the first baby in distress he screamed for the transcutaneous electrodes (to measure electrolyes). I told him that unless he had brought some with him, he was out of luck.
  3. Our recent FDA inspection was also by an inspector who wore a Navy like uniform. Although I personally had little interaction with her in the 3 days she spent here, she seemed to be quite professional, thorough and even pleasant. I guess it's the luck of the draw.
  4. We are currently focusing on eliminating labeling errors with an emphasis on manually entered volumes. We use Zebra printers and Safetrace. Our labeling area is located in our testing/processing area. Any observations or comments on how to attain perfection would be appreciated.
