  1. I believe Julie Staves at the John Radcliffe in Oxford has stopped using CMV negative units but I don't have a reference (if there is one).
  2. I'm discussing this very subject at the moment. Does anyone have the reference for these time limits in the UK. Thanks
  3. Hi Steve Any sign of your refurbishment yet? John T
  4. Hi Sandi Interesting thread - but this comment would worry me 'If they get a patient with a positive screen they have to send out the patient specimen and segments from the units they want crossmatched for antibody ID and unit antigen testing.' My understanding of what you are saying is that they are asking another facility to test their units and to crossmatch them, but retaining the units on-site. It seems to me that the potential for identification errors in this procedure is sufficient to nullify any benefits. Surely it would be safer for the testing laboratory to identify suitable units and send those to the hospital. Any comments? John
  5. Abid My apologies for being flippant - I was referring to one of the gurus on this site, Malcolm Needs at the National Blood Service in the UK. There was a discussion on another thread about turn round times (TAT) and my inference was that sending your sample to him would adversely affect his laboratory's performance in light of the great distance between you. Once again my apologies for hi-jacking your thread with a flippant post. JohnT:redface:
  6. Rashmi I agree that the analysers giving the negative results should be taken out of use immediately. I would suggest that discussions with the scheme organisers would be a constructive way forward. All methodologies used within the laboratory should be used for testing any external QC material and, particularly where there are discrepant results, all results should be submitted. I suspect that most labs. will not participate in a separate scheme for each analyser or method and most external QC schemes will not have the facility to allow the recording of the scenario that you have outlined. At least we have moved away from the days when any external QC sample was tested to death to get the 'right' answer! John
  7. Send it to Malcolm! (Could make a mess of his TATs though)
