medtechristy reacted to David Saikin in Blood Bank FreezerI love Helmer products. Used to be you called up and spoke with one of the Helmers . . . that said. Had an iseries in NH. After the first year it would crash, for a number of small reasons, every 10-12 months . . . a gasket deteriorates, the inside unit attached to the fan craps out, nothing major but it forces you to move product, increase documentation. At my current facility iseries: fan motor dies, compressor dies, - I think there might be exterior pressures on those parts which I have resolved but still . . . I just put in a capital request for one of the Panasonics. Hopeuflly it will perform more efficiently.
Have had no problems with Helmer Refs except to add coolant sporadically. Have that built into maintenance schedule where I am now (I think so anyway)

medtechristy reacted to richj in ErytraHello
Saw a demonstration of the Erytra by Grifols. I believe cards are cheaper and with 8 wells you get more bang for the buck. Thought the instrument had many nice features.
Just looking for any feedback regarding the instrument, cards, reagents etc if anyone has information.
Thanks

Are you screening for M- units? is anti-M clinically significant or you always give M- units?
your cost per antigen is very good. If I am paying that much I may consider buying from my supplier. It all depends on antigen you are screening for.
eg. anti-S 1 drop of anti-S will cost you $15 (if you are paying $900 for 3ml vial), add controls, frequency of finding units, other supply cost plus tech time.
it would be a good exercise for you to take your Jkb example and add all costs to see what was your cost per unit and compare that to your supplier cost.
By the way your supplier is really giving you good pricing? east cost or west cost?

& if the current screen is negative, crossmatch will not help...
