  1. Our Blood bank has been using Rhophylac for 5 years. We switched from Ortho Rhogam as it was just too expensive. The physicians like Rhophylac as it can be given IV if needed. We are in Northeastern Pa.
  2. We were both AABB and CAP accrediated until this year when we dropped our CAP inspections. CAP inspectors do not know enough about Blood bank to do a thorough inspection. At our last CAP inspection the inspector sat in the lab and watched the techs work. She never bothered to look at Procedure Manuals and did not want to go to the floors to observe Nursing giving a transfusion. In my opinion AABB inspectors are more qualified and have helped in the past by giving our Blood bank great suggestions on how do do certain things. We are also Joint Commission accrediated so I don't know if upper management will want to keep our AABB accrediation going forward. I think they should as Joint Commission ofter refers to AABB standards.I am very happy with AABB coming in to inspect our Blood bank

We have had the Echo for 2 years now and love it. Very easy to use, can program stats into it and can do panels. The time it has gone down in 2 years has been maybe 2 times, other than that we have used blud direct and let immucor Tech Support look for the problem. We do 1200 Type/Screens a month. I only wish we had 2 instruments but for what we have used it for it has been great.

Our Blood Center supplies us with pooled cryo( 5 in 1 bag) They charge us 300.00 per cryo pool. Very worth it as all we have to do is thaw it.
  5. to Lekota 40: You say you were an afternoon supervisor? Did you review all the techs on afternoon shifts worK. I have a 4-12 supervisor here at this lab and she can't review anything. Doesn't even know how to do a panel in Blood bank. So until you can walk in my shoes( 35 years Blood bank bench experience) 6 years Blood bank Supervisor stop complaining about the Supervisor not having bench experience. Also 4-12 shift Supervisors do all departments of the lab not just 1 section such as Blood bank. Seems to me you need an attitude adjustment!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I am a Blood bank Supervisor and have 35 years of Bench Experience. I do help on the bench when I am not writing procedures, doing Inspections, making up Competencies, Reviewing and scheduling all QC including Activations, Calibrations etc... If you would like to change places with me I would be more than happy to sit on the bench and type results into the computer. i am capable of doing ALL Blood bank work on the bench and also all Supervisor work. If it wasn't for us Supervisors you would not only be doing bench work but paper work, making schedules, writing procedures and doing inspections. Think you can handle all that?!!!!!!!! Also do you think you know enough about Blood bank Standards to be reviewing your co-workers work? If so more power to you. PS Supervisors work more than 40 hours/week and are not entitled to overtime!!!!!!!!
