  1. I like this, will have to check this one out.....did not think about using check cells....
  2. For my mixed field, I will take about 7 to 8 drops of either A or B cells and add 2 drops of screening cells. This will show a nice weak mixed field.
  3. We have seen a few patients positive on cell 4 and 10 in conjuction with screen cell I (VS633). I will call Ortho on Monday...
  4. Why don't you post to this message board your questions or thoughts as you read each chapter. I am sure we all you help you. It may also benefit those that are taking the exam at a later date.

  6. I also would like to see which item you are referring to.
  7. We are not 100% due to cost. We also keep pall filters just incase we have to use non leuko on a patiet that requires leuko filter. All our onc arw leuko reduced.
  8. I agree with Mabel. The place I work out now has it searchable by name and unit number. If the old system has results it would be most helpful to see those also. On the patient side, if the old system had any special needs, comments, antigen these should also be listed.
  9. The last two places I have worked, we were able to export select data and imported the data into a access database. I just had to use that database last week to do a lookup. What ever you do make sure it is easy to use. Not everyone is computer literate.
  10. I have seen a number of anti-Jka that do not react on all homozygous cells. So when I teach students, I tell them to rule out with homozygous but if the pattern does not fit then look at the ones with only one ruled out cell. Hey I just reached my 100 post and it only took me 9 years!
  11. We are doing about 3 per month, they are not stat due to not being able to turn them out within our 60 minute (draw to resulted window). We will do them on those with Fetal Stain positive and those OB patients with abdominal trauma (they are looking for fetal bleeding).
  12. i agree, very big waste/
  13. We had an arrangement with our blood supplier to do C3 but they got bought out and no longer do just C3 they want to do the whole workup which would be duplicate. We are a stand alone hospital, but we do have a larger hospital not that far, I am going to see if they will do just C3 for us.
  14. Hi everyone, I was wondering what smaller hospitals are doing about c3 testing. We are doing only about 12 C3 tests a year, so that the Positive QC is real expsensive for us. And if we want to send it out to our reference lab they want to do All the DAT and eluate if needed (which we may have already done). If you are not doing the C3 are you putting a disclaimer on the report and if the doctor wants a C3 you would then send it out? What are your inspectors saying, if anything. Thanks
  15. I am trying to build the following tests HLA Typing (A,B: B27) - use 86813 ? HLA Antibody Screen - 86828 ? And how do you charge for P9052 when there is no HLA ISBT barcode? Thanks Chris
  16. You can't if you have and ipad, it takes multiple taps just to get one out!
  17. No problems from me either. Never snows in Florida
  18. Our Helmer went down for the day because one of the arms needed to be replaced. So we went through the whole lab to see if there was a backup waterbath we could use. Found one down in the morgue got it up and running and it kept a steady 37C temp. It is now out backup. I got some brownie points saving the lab a few thousand dollars.
  19. We got our full shipment today.
  20. Is there a requirement that states that the Med. Dir has to review outside facilities SOP (example nursing homes you supply blood to) ? We work with them to get the SOP up to par, but does MD have to annual review them?
  21. We can not tell anyone what or how to pre medicate. On any transfusion reaction our medical director can only recommend like aakupaku said....
  22. We also do the same as Terri, buy a new one each year.
  23. We have had one Helmer freezer and two Helmer fridges since 2009, all are the i-series. Our problems 1) Freezer had to have a new compressor put in. 2) Each take 6 D batteries (battery backup for the alarm in case of power failure), which can be a little touchy to change, they are on top and have to have at least a 3 or 4 step ladder to get to. Also after changing them you need to make sure to unplug the unit to test the alarm to see if the batteries are seated well. We have had to change out the battery case on one due to it failing.
  24. Back in the day, we would get orders for a 10 pack of pulled platelets. So 2 techs would get together and grab some platelets and start pulling on the bags!
  25. I am like John. We have always enjoyed music. We currently have a qickmix on Pandora streaming at work. This way we all get to hear our music....
