  1. :)set temperature is 33.5 and high alarm is 36.5 on the Helmers.
  2. Curious how Transfusion Services with computer systems are interpreting the following CAP checklist questions: TRM.30400 Is there a documented system in operation to detect and correct significant clerical and analytical errors, and unusual laboratory results, in a timely manner? GEN.43824 Are manual and automated result entries verified before final acceptance and reporting by the computer? There are truth tables/blood bank maintenance built into the software, but how are results reviewed (in a timely manner) of gel or tube reactions that were performed and entered manually (non-interfaced)? Thanks!
  3. Better check your operator's manual and make sure you do specifically what it says unless you can validate otherwise!!
  4. The MTS centrifuge manual lists it as a daily check. The last updated centrifuge manual (October 2008) lists the details. Ortho has a QC template for the daily checks required by the manufacturer.
  5. How does your facility address the issue/reissue of thawed plasma? The Tech Manual states "WB, RBCs FFP(after thawing) may be returned to the transfusion service's inventory provided the appropriate temperature has been maintained. Although not stipulated by regulatory or accrediting agencies, studies indicate that these previously refrigerated components will maintain <10 C if not held at ambient temperature for longer than 30 minutes". Our question is, if you thaw plasma and issue it, and it comes back in 30 minutes, how do you address the <10 C when the thawed product was not equilibrated at 1 -6 C before issue? Thanks!
  6. Our Ortho trainer told our smaller facilities going through gel training that gel testing is moderate complexity...any thoughts?
  7. Call your sales rep. they will get you what you need pronto!

What have you found your TAT to be for antibody screens? Thanks!
  9. We use Panel C as well, saved ourselves alot of grief. With the reformulated cells that were introduced last year we have picked up many E, K and Jka that would have been missed in tube. With more generalists rotating through the blood bank we need that sensitive system.

What LIS interface platforms support the Echo?
  11. Are you doing pre and post DATs with transfusion reactions?
  12. Is there a reference you can site for requiring platelet poor plasma for gel testing? I have searched product inserts, the Technical Manual and other sources and cannot find any reference to this. I have a call into technical support about this matter. I am concerned if this is indeed a requirement as we will need to validate/verify our blood bank centrifuges for specimens in providing platelet poor plasma.
  13. Anyone using the Veriteq Temperature/Humidity Monitoring System? Thoughts please!
  14. Thank you, yes I could!! The fact remains that I need to get a thermometer inside the bag to become a temperature monitoring device. We use to do this all the time with blood bags to do cooler validations. It is a safety issue(breaking the thermometer) for one thing. I was hoping someone had a slick way to get the thermometers inside the bag.
  15. I will be doing a platelet incubator validation. I am struggling with how to make surrogate component bags with thermometers for my maximum load. Any ideas? Thanks!
