I am going to have to purchase new barcoders for ISBT 128. Our computer system is Cerner Millennium. I would prefer the wand type rather than the "gun" type. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with different models and brands. Thanks.

I read about a new "genetic test" that prevents"mismatched transfusions" in the CLPrime newsletter yesterday. It soulnds like it might do multiple antigens typings. It is not yet licensed in the U.S. Does anyone know more about it?

We use RadSure Blood Irradiation Indicators.

Our system is Cerner Millennnium. The tags are paper, 3 copies, no sticky. Sticky labels are printed on a seperate label printer.

We use Lexmark 2400 Series without tooo much trouble.

If you have a request for blood on a pregnant woman, do you have a policy for selecting CMV negaive blood? Do you also give CMV- to nursing mothers?

No. They usually don't understand or don't retain the info. We handle special cases verbally, usually through th pathologist.

We store our cards in the frig except for the ones that are being used. We have not had many problems with the 0.8 cells.

Thank you Richard. Yes, we are registered and I have looked at those codes on their site, but they don't look like they are clear images. I haven't tried them yet, but will be phasing ISBT in over the next few months. I may take you up on that offer.

Where is everyone getting label samples for the ISBT codes?

If you are actually dispensing them at the time, there may only be a few minutes differnce between the printing and the physical dispensing. The other option is to return them and redispense with the actiual time and courier information.

Does that include the antibody detection if it is a new specimen?

I would be interested in comparing turn around times for a stat T&C for 2 units from the OR. Assume the specimen is collected by the OR and the patient has a negative antibody screeen in gel. Thanks.
