Found a bb tech locally to take them all!😁
  2. Our computer system (WellSky Transfusion v. 2020R3) build utilizes the ISBT formulas to modify products. So we only had to build in the codes going from the original RBC unit to the final reconstituted one. It only requires the starting RBC and the ending RBC component information to make it work using a pooling process and it works with all our thawed plasma. You may have to to validate that all your thawed plasma product codes can be used if it's a different process/computer build. For example: Start with RBC E0224 who's component code is 002 and ISBT equation is @08C2 D4 then pool it in an open system, using process code PLS-A (add plasma) to E5797 with component code 002 and ISBT equation @08B2 C2 D4 E4. The B2 makes it an open system and the E4 gives it the 'plasma added' on the label. I hope this helps.

Retired SBB. I have several Immunohematology books from the 70s and 80s published by AABB for workshops and seminars. Also, others such as published for other Immunohematologists, for example P.Issitt and others in the field. If anyone may have any interest in owning these hardback books I would gladly share. It would be sad to just recycle, which I have seen happen to other previous medical books. If you would like me to list any particular year's books, titles or authors just leave a reply to this post or to me separately. After a month or so if there is no interest, they are off to be recycled! 🤔
  4. You can store reagents and patient specimens in the same fridge as blood but you need to make sure that the range is set to accommodate both. Our fridges are set with 2.5-5.5 C which meet both blood product guidelines and those of our reagents and specimens.

I highly recommend you use this opportunity to discontinue using a separate BB ID band. Using the patient’s regular ID band works great. If you’re using scanned PPID from the wristband for specimen collection & labeling, adding another ID band into the process no longer adds any safety benefits. You’ve already created your closed loop system using the regular hospital ID band and scanning it for both specimen collection and blood administration in BPAM.

Ensis01 you expressed my thoughts far better than I ever could have. I've never been a fan of blood bank specific arm bands and fought against them most of my long and storied () career. Complicating a process never made it better and often made the problems far worse than the one folks are trying to address. My answer to glewis is that this is a perfect time to get rid of the blood bank specific armband. Let the computer and nurses do their jobs in the simplest most efficient way possible.

I don't need them myself, but I think what you are offering is marvellous.
