what is new expiration date ?

Lets say you weld the donor unit with a syringe or an aliquot bag. Is this welding method regarded as sterile? What is the parent bag expiration date after taking small amount of blood from the parent bag after heat seal? No change or shorter date? What is the expiration date of aliquot / syringe after blood drawn into it (weld first, then heat seal)? 24hrs or same as parent bag?

Parent bag----original expiration unless seal was not intact, in other words you must check seal of all weld when using sterile connecting device.

Aliquot in syringe---follow manuf. guideline. Usually 24 hrs.

If the weld stays intact the parent unit keeps the original out date. Then it depends if the product is a red cell or a plateletpheresis for the out dates:

> red cell aliquoted to a component bag is  the original out date.

> red cell aliquoted to a syringe 24 hours.

> platelet 4 hours no matter if to a component bag or to a syringe.
