We bought a thermometer with the wire probe. We insert it into one of the gel wells and place it in the workstation.

Where did you get it?  Company?

I know of another hospital that just documents that the temperature indicator on the device was acceptable.

Are they AABB?  Joint Commission?

Where is everyone/anyone purchasing their internal thermometer to check the temp on the new Ortho Gel work station?

We also do this, we get it from Fisher.  We buy a new one when it expires

Replacing with the cal expires seems extremely wasteful. Although it's probably good for whoever's turn it is to get a new thermometer for their home chest freezer or what not. We have a company that comes in every six months and checks out all of our pipettes and thermometers and maintains various things like microscopes. It's quite nice.

I used to have our thermometers checked in the same way. Then I discovered that the charge for that was actually more than buying new thermometers. It does seem wasteful, but it makes better financial sense.
