Use of wash RBC´s

Can you tell me, under which indications,  do you use wash RBC´s for transfusion?

We had a patient that was reacting to everything, though not IgA deficient. As a "last ditched effort" I tried washed cells, which she seemed to tolerate better.

 

I have no formal "indication" in my SOPs

We have one Thalassemia major patient who has multiple antibodies . we used to Washed the Blood Bag three times and add little saline . ( after finding compatilbe and all antigen nagative blood for the patient ) . I don't have any documentation or recommendation for it . just to share which may give some idea by some one here.

We give washed RBC's to IgA deficient patients. We also can give it, as Liz0316 wrote, in situations when there is a very sensitively reacting patient. But mostly in those IgA-situations.

We use washed RBCs for intrauterine transfusions. They are very few and far between...

We also use in IgA deficient situations. And one time with a patient who had presistent txn rxn (rigors and SOB) with no known antibody issues.
