qualitygal
Recently we had an incident where the timer setting on the Irradiator was 6min 1sec, but the print out had 6min 2sec. The calculated time for the 27.5 Gy for central dose rate( the Radiation Officer adds 10% to minimum central dose of 25Gy) is 6min 1sec At the 25Gy dose it would be 5min 31sec. But, what would be the maximun acceptable Gy central dose for blood and blood products? (Cesium-137 source)Anyone have any similar problems or any suggestions? lph
The maximum dose at any point in the container is 5000 rads or 50 Gy.
QCDan
We irradiate at 30Gy as a target dose. Your products should be ok
GammaChad
Most irradiators have a +/- 2 second tolerance for the timer due to the signals being sent to the controllers in the irradiator varying. I wouldn't go above 30Gy for the central dose because that usually brings your max dose for your product around 43-44Gy around the outside edge of the product. There was a company irradiating 35Gy to the center of their products and their max dose turned out to be 51Gy to the outside of their product.
