Tissue tracking software vendor list

Recommended Posts

I need a list of tissue tracking software vendors so we can start the discovery phase of implementing some. Please share any software vendor you use or know about and any information about how well they work.

We were going to go with the McKesson product but since they are sunsetting their current Clinical/EMR system that it was integrated with and it doesn't integrate with their new EMR version, Paragon, we need to go back to look at all vendors.

Meet all of the JC requirements for tissues--tracking from pkg integrity right off the loading dock all the way to implant. Implant information on the patient with all the lot numbers of saline etc. used to prepare it. Report back to supplier and also inventory management so you can tell what you have and what is expiring. Certificates from all the suppliers filed in it would be good. Automatic download of them would be better. Barcodes for all the tissues for ease of tracking when a tissue moves to a different storage area. Some of them even have a space to record daily temps. That's all I can come up with from memory.

Hello Mabel. If you're interested, I actually work for CareFusion and would be happy to have the local sales consultant in your area get in touch with you about our product. The Tissue and Implant Module application integrates with our Pyxis ProcedureStation and automated temperature monitoring solution providers, but can also be purchased as a stand-alone product. I'm not sure if you're still in the market for a solution but would be happy to at least provide more information if you'd like.

We ended up having a demo of Pyxis/CareFusion but are hung up on having IT resources to do anything about the problem yet. It does seem advantageous to be able to piggy-back it onto the Pyxis system we already have for meds. After our new EMR goes live in Aug maybe we can get some traction on this again.

Mabel, that's great. I'm not sure who did your demo but would be curious if you wouldn't mind letting me know. Also, what's the name of the facility you work at?

If you have any questions ever, feel free to reach out. The application can be used both as an integrated solution with Pyxis or as a stand-alone product.

This is my forever project apparently.  Does anyone have any updates on tissue software vendors since last year?

We are using SoftBank for our tissue tracking.  It's not specifically for tissue tracking, but we built the tissues like blood products and it works very well for us.  And we didn't have to train the techs on a different software.  Do you have a Blood Bank LIS that you can adapt to track tissues?

Hi Mabel,

Mediware offers a system called Transtem that provides functionality for tracking products from receipt to implant.  This includes the use of barcode scanning throughout the process, inventory management and comprehensive management of equipment and consumables.  If you'd like to discuss the system, or a possible demonstration, please feel free to reach me at my contact points provided below.

We are in the process of updating our website and product collateral to address our new offering for tissue markets. Our Transtem Lab 2014 application will provide management for fresh and manufactured tissue products supporting clinical and research operations.  Transtem will track receipt, categorization, manipulation, release and implantation of product and post-procedure outcomes.  Transtem will meet the requirement to manage chain of custody and proper identification of the product.

Please contact me at the points provided above and I’ll be happy to coordinate a quick call to discuss your organization’s needs in a system and answer any additional questions you may have.

To Terri Bostock - you said that you use SoftBank.  I am currently upgrading SoftBank to v25 and plan to build a tissue product in it.  I am conflicted as to building it as a "Supply" action (formerly Rx product) similar to RhoGam, or as a blood product similar to red cells but without an ABO required.  Which way do you have your system built?  Thank you very much.

Building tissues as actions, like RhIg, would have much easier. However after we tried it, there wasn't enough in there to support all of the regulatory requirements. Since tracking of tissues is identical to blood, building them as blood products took a little longer, but it can support arrival temp and inspection, issue and return, recalls, etc. We built a tissue group code and built each tissue as Z1, Z2, Z3, etc, so they would go at the bottom of the list and not get mixed up in the blood products. We also had to give each tissue a default "blood type" of O Neg, so it would let us give it to any patient. We are now trying to have a custom issue form for tissues built by SCC.
