tms8313
We are trying to finalize our SOP and I wondered what other places are doing about these questions.1. What is the maximum number of 5 day Thawed Plasma that you give to a rapidly bleeding patient before switching them back to 24 hour fresh thawed plasma?2. What is the lower age cutoff to give the 5 day Thawed Plasma and at what age would you NOT give the 5 day plasma? We are wondering what our age cutoff should be for pediatric trauma patients that need plasma emergently. Thanks for any and all responses!! adiescast
We give FFP to our neonates (up to 4 months). Everyone else gets thawed plasma. We have not ever switched back to FFP in a rapidly bleeding patient. These patients all get Cryoprecipitate in addition to plasma and that takes care of the labile factors. BloodBank
We give thawed plasma to all patients including neonates. If physician wants FFP they will have to specify the product by calling blood bank otherwise all FFP orders are completed with plasma.
clmergen
We don't even carry FFP. I would have to special order it if a physician was insistent. And I wouldn't even do that until my Medical Director intervened.
