Rh type of plts for bone marrow tx patients

I'm interested in what others do in this situation.

Rh pos bone marrow transplant patient, transplanted with Rh neg bone marrow, requires platelets. Patient is not converting to Rh neg yet, no mixed field Rh typing, transplanted 2 weeks ago.

What Rh type platelets do you give? The new (16th) edition Technical Manual now has a chart (p. 689) for selecting components based on the Rh type of donor/recipient.... It says to give Rh neg plts when donor is Rh neg/Recipient is Rh+, however there is no discussion as to the time frame or current Rh typing of the patient.

I dont see any reason why you'd have to give Rh neg platelets when the patient is still typing Rh positive (and of course, no recent red cell transfusion are interfering with the typing).
