  1. Our Blood Bank/Transfusion Service and Blood Center use Softbank/SoftDonor. User friendly. In my last employment, we had SafeTrace Tx. I had help build it, it seemed to more blood bank safety built into it and would stop most generalists (not accustomed to blood bank but filling in) from making grave errors . The downside, it was not easy use for non-blood bank minded techs. Both systems are good.
  2. Congratulations Malcolm, you have retired alive and the future is all yours! Thank you for your contributions and for any future and wonderful advice.
  3. We have a canned result "Probable Passive D due to RhIG" with a comment added noting the RhIG date administered and name of whom we received the information.
  4. Organ donors receive crossmatched LRBC and plasma as needed in our facility. The billing/account number is only changed. A current specimen is required. Simiilar to Mabel's experience, I have been at facilities where the name was changed, confusion and delays ensue.
  5. Thank you Mabel for your comments. I was able to see both at AABB last year and have both Grifols and Ortho gave presentations at our site. It is hard to get staff to go visit other sites due to staffing and our location is at least 3-4 hours away from other sites. We were fortunate that Grifols brought the instruments to us and all fifteen of our staff had a chance to see it run and asks multitudes of questions. It is good to hear others views on the instruments, after AABB I had my mind set on one instrument then through some research and speaking with staff, I have changed my mind.
  6. Has anyone looked at Grifols Erytra? We have looked at the Ortho Vision and Grifols Erytra. We would need two of the Visions to take care of our work for Transfusion Services and Reference Lab work. One Erytra would be our other choice, it has some good features. Would like to hear from others who have looked at both. Currently we have 3 Echos, manual gel and tube. Thank you for your reviews.
  7. I will be at AABB, any plans to informally meet each other from this website?
  8. I checked with AABB years ago for information, took the New assessor training and test at the AABB Conference that year. If you meet the IRL Standards for Supervisor and are attending the AABB Conference in Anaheim, sign up for the New Assessor Training course on Thursday Oct. 22. AABB Staff are usually very helpful in obtaining answers. It is worth looking into the requirements and going from there.
  9. Thank you for your responses. I will use the RBC labeled "Unidentified Antibody" unit for training and competency among students and 12 techs. We get 5 or 6 of these labeled units in ~10,000 units received. To clarify, the plasma that are labeled unidentified antibody are always used for research, student and tech competency and for a university upon request.
  10. Do other Transfusion Services/Blood Banks receive products (RBC &/or FFP/PFP) from their blood center with a notation that the product has an unidentified antibody in it? I have not come across this situation in the past 20 years of working in other hospitals where I receive products with this sticker on it. I have even received one O Negative RBC with a notation that the donor has Anti-D. Has anyone else experienced this type of situation?
