  1. Hi, I was told when I split a red cell product using an open system, the E code changes. Where do I find a list to know what it changes to? Thank you, Kelsey
  2. Hello, I am seeking to understand how a mini-panel is used in patients suspected of a passive Anti-D from Rhogam. Our OB patients almost all have a Type and Screen ordered on admit for delivery. Since we are gel users, we pick up a lot of what we suspect to be anti-D from the antenatal rhogam. We perform the screen and then an 11 cell panel, reporting it out as an anti-D, Rhogam given XX/XX/XX. We are fortunate to have easy access the the patient's Rhogam history in most situations. 1. What is a mini panel? 2. Can I make a mini panel from the Immucor 16 cell panel? What about an Ortho 11 cell panel? 3. Is a mini panel ever used in situations other than passive anti-D? Thank you
  3. I know that being consistent with the type of cell, heterozygous or homozygous, is vital to the titer series. Is there a particular cell that is better to use to titer an Anti-Jka?
  4. I have a site that wants to use a frost free freezer for both chemistry reagents and as a backup blood bank freezer. Would this be acceptable for plasma products? Blood bank uses a Helmer plasma freezer currently, which I thought was frost free - does that sounds correct?
  5. Yes, it was very strange I was notified after the fact. The OR already has one, they just wanted one for a second room. It is continuously monitored with an alarm. They are already used to taking daily temps and changing charts. Other maintenance, not so sure. I have requested to see all their records. I will have to answer to the inspectors...which is why I will make sure it is done correctly. The fridge is in my posession until ready for use. I cannot find records of validation of the first refrigerator - the previous manager retired right before Christmas. I am hoping the OR has a copy of the validation records. Can you please explain what temperature mapping is?
  6. Hi, I received a call from my OR today that they ordered and received a new refrigerator for storing blood in the room for open hearts and that I need to "get it ready". What is required to validate a new refrigerator for storage of blood? I have not seen the fridge yet, but I am told it has a chart and alarms. Thanks!
  7. Can anyone document a reference supporting the process of two signatures...the collector and a second identifying person?
