  1. Hi anyone, I'm trying to make patient instructions for postprandial blood sugar test. Following is what I've made so far. Patient Instruction for postprandial blood sugar test Introduction 1. Postprandial means "after a meal." 2. A two-hour postprandial blood sugar test measures blood glucose exactly 2 hours after eating a meal. 3. Normally, your blood glucose levels increase slightly after you eat. 4. In healthy people blood sugar usually goes down 2 hours after eating your meal, but it may still be elevated in people with diabetes. 5. This test is done to know whether a person may have diabetes, or of whether a person who has diabetes is successfully controlling their blood sugar. Test Instructions 1. Eat a meal that contains carbohydrates. 2. Eat the entire meal within 15 minutes 3 You should rest during the 2 hours between the meal or drink and the blood collection. 4. Do not smoke, eat, drink, or exercise during the 2 hours. These activities cause the blood sugar levels to be falsely low or falsely high. 5 Return to the lab two hours after completion of your meal. Your blood will be drawn again for the 2 hour postprandial blood sugar (glucose). Any help to improve this would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks for the replies. Do you mean to say that CRP should be markedly increased in order to deffer a donor. What if it is slightly increased? Should not the donor be deferred?
  3. Hi anyone, Recently we got a donor who is positive for CRP. My question of concern is that can a person donate blood if he or she is positive for CRP. Any help on this would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. My intention is to conduct a survey so as to know the frequency that the doctors want the specific tests to be ordered on their daily basis patients. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi anyone, Our lab is trying to implement new tests like Serum theophyline, HBA1C Serum Iron and so on. But before starting to implement these tests we want to run a survey questionnaire to all the doctors in our institution to know how often they need these tests. The main aim of this survey is to know the demand for these tests. The question of concern is whether any user has such a kind of questionnaire form. SO that we could use it as a sample. Any help on this would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi anyone, What would be the shelf life of whole blood collected in CPD-A, with tie knotted instead of thermal sealing and stored at 4-8 degrees. Any help on this would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks for the help. I do really appreciate them.
  8. Thanks for the reply. So you mean to say that we could only store for 24 hours and it expires after that. At what temperature should we keep it then?
  9. Hi anyone, Can Packed RBC, components prepared without additives, using an open system be stored? If so, what is the shelf life of that or for how many days can we store them. Any help on this would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Best Regards Fiza
  10. I like the document & it has given ideas to improve the existing document. Thanks for the help> I do really appreciate that
  11. Yeah that's very true & I appreciate the answer
  12. Hi heathervaught I would be pleased if you could specify me the name of the thread where the document exists. Regards Fiza
  13. Well guys, as you've said in most of the developed countries they either autoclave the bags for disinfection and dispose of them with contracted regulated medical waste disposal company. But in small or undeveloped countries this facility might not be available. In these kind of countries how would you describe the following procedure to be. 1. Cut the blood bag into two half with a surgical Knife. Cut the tubing with a scissor. 3. The scissor can be disinfected in gulutaraldehyde ON. 4. Soak the bag in 10% Sodium Hypochlorite for overnight. 5. Don’t soak the needle and tubing as it will have less penetrability instead, incineration them. Do not use formaldehyde, it has irritant effects. 6. Dispose the disinfection solution into the sink. 7. Dispose the blood bag in municipal waste. Regards Fiza
  14. Hi Anyone, As per to my knowledge regarding our subject I would like to take the pleasure to ask you that; What is the best procedure practiced for discarding blood bags after transfusion? Should they be autoclaved & discarded? Or Disinfected with 10% sodium hypochlorite for overnight & incinerated? I hear experts saying that it is better to disinfect blood units for discarding by autoclaving. Incineration is not recommended due to poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) content of blood bags. If you support the fact that they should be autoclaved prior to disposal, what is the disposal procedure after autoclaving? I would be pleased if you could make me clear about the above mentioned query. Thanks in advance. Sincerely Fiza
  15. Hi Eoin I've sent a private message with my email address. Regards Fiza
