  1. Thanks, Most info I am hearing is that SoftBank is the Gold Standard and other systems would be a step down.
  2. Which BloodBank computer system do you prefer and why? We have SoftBank and administration would like reasons why to keep it rather than switch to Cerner, which is our HIS. In January we have to pay for SoftBank upgrade which may be more expensive then installing Cerner. Thanks, Jack
  3. That's right, just need a policy in place. I called AABB Accreditation which suggested a policy must be in place to state how you would handle Rh Pos patients who get Rh Neg blood. As an example AABB said to give RhIg only to females of childbearing age. So just state what you would do. Sometimes these Standards are like deciphering poetry.
  4. Does anyone have a policy to issue RhIg or WinRho to Rh negative patients receiving Rh Positive blood? AABB has a standard 5.20 " The transfusion service shall have a policy for Rh Immune Glogulin prophylaxis for Rh-negative patients who have been exposed to Rh-positive red cells."
  5. How do you meet requirements for proficiency testing for transfusion reactions and how many times a year do you perform this? I know of no survey materials for this but think it is required for CAP/AABB accredidation. Thanks for any suggestions, Jack J
  6. I am now writing a policy to implement a pick up slip. I like the idea Cliff stated above to have the department present the slip. With that in mind, we will have the floor order the test code for the component to pick up. This will generate a label with Pt name, MR#, location, and component. They will then have to go to pt. bedside and place a typenex sticker on this label and then present to Blood Bank.
  7. We call the patient's nurse to get the date of last RhIg injection, document this on patient record and then perform the mini-panel. If nurse does not have a record of recent RhIg and we do not then we stop there and do the standard ab. ID.
