  1. Wow, I am impressed with the rapid response, thanks everyone.
  2. I was asked to find out what people are doing about positive DAT's (IgG) that are not associated with transfusion. We receive a few out patient samples that are sometimes positive. We do no further work up. When we receive cord blood speciemens that have a positive DAT, we do not do any further workup unless requested by the physician. Are you guys automatically getting a full patient history and doing an ABID/elution on ALL your positive DAT's, or just the ones that are intended for transfusion? I feel the need to say that we do full work ups on all positive DAT's for transfusion. Thanks Teresa
  3. I was hoping you may be willing to share your info sheet you made for the physicians and nursing staff.
  4. Hey Mabel your almost at 1000 posts. Yeah I saw the reactivity you are describing, and let them know. Shauna says hi.
  5. We get a few patients that have rouleaux. I am able to resolve the discrepencies most of the time by adding 22% bovine albumin to the red cells and mix before adding the plasma. We also have a large Oncology patient population.
  6. INBC said I needed to calibrate it at -20, -55, and -70
  7. I am definately looking in the wrong place the one I found that goes down to -70C is $286.60.
  8. Thanks, I was hoping I could just use glycerol. Do you use the NIST thermometer to calibrate it at -70C. My supervisors are reluctant to buy a NIST, but I cannot think of another way to calibrate it.
  9. :oI accidently left my internal thermometer outside the freezer and it was stored in a bag that was broken. frozen and broken is ok. thawed and broken leaves a big mess. Now I have to prepare a new one. Which I have never done. I would very much appreciate some help on how to properly prepare an internal thermometer. I am keeping blood products at -70C. Should I use Ethylene Glycol Dimethyl Ether 99% and should I dilute it? If I should dilute it... with what? I am going to put it inside a never been used blood bag. Unless you have a better idea. Thanks T
  10. can you bill for both IS and Gel xms? merry x-mas
  11. We use the hand written labeling system with only phlebs drawing specimens. We do not allow them to add information to the specimen at a later time. I would love to go to the barcoding/scanning system however we have a hospital that is not willing to move toward that system. I was wondering what people do when using preprinted labels. I can see how people may get in a hurry at the bed side and label the specimens potentially with the wrong label. Do you have them put a check mark next to the identifiers to force them to check? Teresa
  12. Thank you everyone I appreciate your sharing. Teresa
  13. I am currently working on making a new and improved transfusion reaction form for the nursing staff to complete with suspected transfusion reaction. I am wondering if some of you would be willing to share your forms and or give some advice? Our main problem with the current forms is receiving them completed. Thanks Teresa:redface:
  14. I would appreciate a copy of the training check list from all who are offering thanks fmt_akin@hotmail.com
