  1. An intelligent person is not afraid to ask questions, only a fool will think they know it all. To answer your question, “Why does one want to check amniotic or other body fluid for fetal red cell” i.e. Sometimes a newborn may be vomiting up emesis which is bloody and the pediatrician wants to know if the blood is maternal (possibly swallowed during delivery) or fetal (possibly indicating gastro-intestinal complications). The result of either maternal or fetal blood may direct the pediatrician on the proper course of treatment for the newborn.
  2. Does anyone have a procedure that you’re willing to share for using the Sure-Tech Fetal Hemoglobin kit for testing Amniotic and other Body Fluids for the presence of Fetal Erythrocytes? The manufacture’s procedure which comes with the kit has explicate instructions for testing blood samples but is very vague for testing Amniotic and other Body Fluids.
  3. I'm inquiring if any readers (Blood Bankers) out there know of any manufactures that make a water bath that is capable of thawing 10 or more units of FFP at a time. If so, could you please list the Manufacture, phone # and/or e-mail address if available, and first hand information (i.e. Max # FFP capicity, Thaw time, Alarm system availability, Size/Weight, Approx price, etc.)
  4. What we have done at our facility for patients that have an allergy to plastic ID bands, is to apply a strip of non-allergic tape to the underside of the plastic band. This prevents the plastic from contacting the patient's skin, and has worked very well for us. We do the same thing if the patient has an allergy to the metal clasp.
