  1. I'm a technology guy. And, for anyone who hasn't taken the plunge or who has and have had disappointing results over the past few years with their Temperature monitoring system, you should really take a look at the SensoScientific Brand. www.Sensoscientific.com They have 2 system options: 900Mhz and a New WIFI introduction. Really cool advantages to this technology is that: You Don't have do deal with using, buying, providing, or maintaining a Server or Software! You will not have ugly wires and probe cables hanging off of your nice refrigerators because their entire wireless Transmitter goes inside your Refrigerator without drilling holes, etc. Your Notifications, Alarms, and documentation can all be accessed from ANY web-enabled device (Iphone, Ipad, personal Laptop, etc.) No need for dedicated Control station equipment. 100% web-based access to your information using your own Hospital Network Intranet. Give them a glance. www.Sensoscientific.com
  2. I'm afraid if you've already given money to this vendor, you may be disappointed long-term. There are other vendors that are much better. You can find information and forum discussions about these vendors on www.labsurfer.org good luck.
  3. Attention all, Follett has been working behind the scenes for a while with biomed and facilties staff to try and convert all Ice machines and refrigerators and freezers over to their brand in most hospitals. It would not suprise me if they offer some type of rebate benefits on parts, etc. to your biomed or facilities department in order to have them try to internally sell the equipment to you in the Blood bank or laboratory areas. This is how I've heard they do their business. It is true that Helmer Freezers have had some issues. The rest of Helmer's products are much more reliable generally. Have you considered GEM? They are strong in the hospital Pharmacy market, been in business for 75 years, and use expansion valve technology. www.gemref.com Good luck with your biomed people.
  4. Hi, Can't say anything bad about the Helmer units but they don't make a double door freezer. Try the 2DFB from Gem Scientific. They have been around for a long long time and have sturdy equipment from what I hear.
  5. if you're in an area that doesn't have much humidity, the Helmer should be ok. But, I would look at a Gem unit or other alternative if you think there could be humidity issues.
  6. Although almost everything Helmer makes is good quality. The same cannot be said for their Freezers. There are definite Gremlins in those models. alot of condensation and ice build-up, etc.. I would look at a GEM or other known Hospital quality brand if it's for a freezer. I heard GEM is even into the Plasma Thawer business these days.
  7. a CLIAA inspector recommended some changes to prewarmed procedure. Specifically, she wanted to see written limitations on when the prewarmed technique is used so that we don't go to it too quickly.? gel used for antibody screens and IDs.? use tubes for back-up and trouble shooting and to give further information in problem cases.? the inspector may be trying to avoid techs going to a prewarmed method just to get a negative reaction and possibly ignore something significant.? She would like to see us list reasons that we believe it may be a cold and want to move to a prewarmed method as well as reasons that we should not move to a prewarmed method.? There are certainly specific things that are considered but it does seem difficult to come up with an exhaustive list. Does anyone here have any advice on this issue.? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  8. Our latest upgrade on our Cerner Millennium computer system effective Saturday, 4/17, requires us to enter the return temp & degree for all Blood Bank products. We're having problems setting the emissivity for the blood bags or? bag contents. Fenwal could not advise us as to what value to use. Anyone have any recommendations?
  9. Try the Serospin SO from Helmer. It's solid and durable and very good technical support after the fact.
  10. Guys, Sorvall has been going downhill for the past couple of years. It's not your Grandfather's cadillac anymore!!! The Helmer Cellwasher has been getting much better reviews and i hear it's even a little faster!! Good luck.
  11. I've heard the Helmer Plasma thawer is very quick (1 bag in about 10 minutes, 2 bags in slightly longer). good luck
  12. Hi, Don't personally use the microwaves. But, have heard of similar issues. You may be better off looking at something like a Helmer Plasma Thawer. They seem dependable and have decent thaw times.
  13. Yes, definitely call the Helmer guys.... they are at www.helmerinc.com or 1.800.743.5637 and have some very solid centrifuges. good luck.
  14. Hi, Not sure but it wouldn't hurt to contact one of the plasma thawer manufacturers (Like Helmer Inc. out of Indiana, U.S.) to see if their technical department has any of this information on hand?? good luck
