  1. We are also changing our policy to include an immediate spin crossmatch tube method and will follow with the crossmatch by IgG card. We have also purchased the buffer card for immediate spin crossmatches but we have not started using yet.
  2. We have been using a form for a few years. The form is a performance improvement tool. Basically, a check list. it is a way for us to make sure we are makeing sure the chart has the required documentation for a blood product transfusion. I our facility the nurse brings the chart to the blood bank hospital transfusion services. We make sure the consent is signed, the order for the administration is present and the product requested. We also as them to explain the indications for the transfusion.
  3. What I understand is the the hgb will increase approx. 1 g\dL per unit (PRBC) in a 70 kg individual.
  4. just wondering. I work for a 100-200 bed hospital. We have one technologist working the blood bank department. The tech however is also resposible for urinalysis and serology testing. My question is, how many hospitals out there have the issue of performing blood bank testing and testing in other areas of the lab? Thanks for your input.
  5. Sort of. What a want to know is weather or not the "rule out" method is good enough when it comes to antibody identification or do we need to perform other test as a requirement. The "rule out" method appears to be pretty conclusive most of the time, specially when I am dealing with a single antibody. I am wondering, if by continuing testing by performing the Fisher exact method, I have a better probability and not miss other antibodies. Thanks for your help.
  6. Can someone tell me what the requirements are for performing antibody identification. We want to do a ten cell panel and finalize it with the Fishers Exact method to confirm antibody using a 3 positive 3 negative cells. Wondering if this enough. Thanks:)

  8. We also use the Gel MTS but we have ad the same issues as mentioned above. It is very sensitive. We pick up a lot of Anti-D due to antenatal RhIg. We also pick up cold abs and rouleaux. We stopped using it for ABO/Rh typing because it takes 10 min. for results, tube is faster. On a positive note, Its great because you less volume, easy to set up, no washing involved and you can walk away during incubation and/or spinning phases.
  9. :)I was browsing the internet and I came across this site. I browsed through it found a lot of great information. I recently acquired the blood bank lead tech position and I am looking forward to bringing it up to date. It is going to be a great challenge for me. The hospital I work for is 180 bed, so the blood bank procedures performed there a minimal. I am glad I found this site. Question 1: Does anyone have any information regarding competencies for new employes it could use. We use Tube and MTS. Thanks
