  1. Hi David, After hashing this over, I guess my true question is we are missing weak D reactions in gel. Which means we report out all positive reactions in gel as Rh positive. That includes women of child bearing age who should receive Rh negative red cells if they are a weak D. I don't want to have two different procedures for certain age groups. What are your thoughts? Thank you
  2. Hi David, We do all of our types in gel. So, are we missing DVI patients? We do our retypes in tube. We only do retypes of there is no history.
  3. Hi Liz, Since Gel is more sensitive and it picks up Du Pos types, do you do an indirect coombs on a negative D result in tube for the retype? Thank you, Phyllis
  4. Thank you John but how do you proficiency test your LUI?
  5. How do you profiency test your LUIs?
  6. We purchased the Thermosafe Coolers and Hemo-Temp II temperature indicators. Everyone in the hospital is very happy with our procedure. It has only been active for a few months now but, so far so good. Phyllis
  7. Thanks to all of you who replied. We now have a QA person and she is awesome. Phyllis
  8. Hi Angie, Thank you but that was over a year ago and the situation has resolved itself. Phylliis
  9. Hi Brenda, I just recently validated the ThermoSafe coolers and the HemoTemp 11 temperature indicators. They both worked great. The HemoTemp 11 indicators have to be heat activated for 60 seconds. I use the MTS gel incubator. Then remove it from the incubator and let stand at RT for 60 seconds until the indicator turns blue and put it on the refrigerated blood bag. That's it! Phyllis MT(ASCP) BB Sup.
  10. Hello Richard, We are a small hospital who is struggling like most other hospitals. We don't, at present, have the staff to deal with ISBT 128. I am hoping to put off the membership fee until we have the capability to finish our ISBT project. Respectfully, Phyllis Picha MT(ASCP) BB supervisor Anna Jaques Hospital Newburyport, MA 01950
  11. I received an email from Digi-Trax stating it is time to renew our software maintenance contract. I wasn't aware there was a contract. For a mere $1,400 annually we will have unlimited toll free telephone support and free upgrades to any change in ISBT standards. I feel this is an outragous fee. Any thoughts? Thank you, Phyllis
  12. Does anyone have a procedure for transfusing platelets to neonates? I'm familiar with the type selection but how do you take them off of the original unit and how much?
  13. Does anyone out there have a job description for a QA and/or education coordinator for general lab to include blood bank? Thank you, Phyllis
  14. Our BB techs perform numerous CAP unknowns through out the year. I'm a little confused about testing them in all aspects of blood bank. Can I select a certain area and focus on that or do I have to test them in every area of BB each year? Phyllis Picha, MT(ASCP) BB Supervisor
  15. I created a test called RTP (retype). It's a non billable test and it is set as a NP (no print) on the patient's report.
