  1. Anyone care to share.... Let's say a fuse blew on the blood storage refrigerator, and all the inventory was relocated temporarily to the secondary storage device. The fuse is replaced, temp back in range, alarm tested; how long does one need to wait before moving the inventory back ? I didn't see a guideline in the Tech Manual. Thanks!
  2. I'm updating a procedure on storage devices for our blood components. At issue: once a temperature has recovered --say a fuse blew and the freezer was too warm so all the components were moved temporarily, but now the temp. is back in range and the alarm has been tested -- how long must one wait before moving components back? Or is it a question of just doing whatever is spelled out in one's procedure? Thanks!
  3. Okay, I see this was posted last April -- hopefully you are interfaced now! But if not, read on.... We are not interfaced yet and what we do is scan the printouts and save them on a secure site of our health system's computer. It is backed up daily. Once the results are saved to the file, I wait a day or two and go back in to be sure I can access them. At the end of the month we shred the patient result printouts. I do the same for the QC, adding a step where I actually change the name of the file to document it has been reviewed, i.e. "ProVue #58 QC jan-1 thru jan-8reviewed.pdf" Our last AABB assessor was fine with it.
  4. Hey ProVue users! We just went live last week. We're a pretty busy transfusion service. We currently are doing antigen typing for the main Rh antigens using manual gel, with the intention of moving to the ProVue. However we are looking for the best way to do QC for them on the ProVue. For validation, we used our known method and typed unit segments for E, C, and c, thus finding positive and negative "controls" for the ProVue. This doesn't seem very practical to us for general use; but we do not want to waste a lot of reagent, either. Does anyone have suggestions, please? Should we stop worrying about it and just throw on an aliquot of Ortho reagent RBCs? This isn't something we do daily, just PRN. Thanks!
  5. Hello, ProVue users ---- we are not yet live, but will be soon. We have 2 ProVues. Does anyone have suggestions for us re: how to maximize efficiency with minimal reagent waste? For example, do you start a run of routines on the hour/half hour, or when you have a certain number of specimens to load,or what? Also -- how does everyone handle review of QC? I'd rather not print all that paper each day, but at least in the beginning that seems like the easiest way to 1) sign off on the QC, and 2) give the operators a quick way to ensure what lot numbers are in use & verified. Thanks for your input!
  6. Hey, it is a quiet Sunday so I decided to drain and clean our Helmer 8 - slot plasma thawer. I thought it had some patches of mold, but it must be deposits from tap water (?).....whatever it is, I cannot get it clean! Tried hospital-style Comet; CLR; and lots of elbow grease to no avail. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.
  7. Does anyone have a policy regarding expiration time on a Platelet Pheresis product once a 2-bag collection has been pooled into one bag?
