  3. Hi there, I am just becoming familiar with the codes and billing for the blood bank. Can anyone tell me what the HCPC codes are for DAT's and how are they billed? thanks
  4. when do you get the written order to transfuse the products in the O.R. How do they document that the doctor ordered the blood to be transfused?
  5. Hi Everyone, I will appreciate any information you can give me in regards to the regulations of Blood component orders for the transfusion of blood products. Currently we have a component order form that the physician fills out when they transfuse blood on inpatients and outpatients. A copy goes in the chart and a copy is retained in the blood bank. I am wondering what the typical protocol is for pre-op patients? We have a surgical booking form that the physicians fills out to request the pre-op type, screen and crossmatching to be done. If the patient has not been pregnant or transfused in the past 3 months, we allow the clot to be valid for 14 days. Pre-admissions testing retains the surgical booking form and places it in the patient file. When the patient comes in for surgery and requires the blood products, how are you getting a blood component order? Thanks Joy
  6. Hello Everyone, I am wondering if anyone would happen to have any sort of booklet or the like of, that I can use as a guide for preparing a presentation for nursing staff. We will be giving inservices to new graduating nurses on the functions of the laboratory and blood bank. I am not sure if this is done by other labs, but I am thinking if I can give the nurses a guide for laboratory functions, such as, specimen collection....basic transfusion services information...that it may help. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joy
  7. I received the samples of the new typenex bands. They do have some better points to them......the band number is able to be scanned to our blood bank computer system which would cut down on transcription errors for that. The sticky end is really quite nice and they are not easy to get off. I was hoping to find a band that would allow a label generated from admissions to attached as I am finding so many transcription errors on the hand written bands. I am in the testing phase on the bands and will let you know how it comes out.
