I spent the first 16 years of my blood bank career at the Indiana Blood Center. I obtained a BS in Chemistry from Purdue University in December of 2004, and a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science in July 2006. I became MT(ASCP) certified in September 2006. I passed the ASCP SBB exam on 5/28/2010. In 2014, I was recognized as one of ASCP's inaugural Top 40 Under Forty Medical and Laboratory professionals, and later recognized as one of the Top Five. I changed careers in March 2016, joining IU Health as Director of the Academic Health Center Transfusion Medicine Laboratories, serving Methodist Hospital, University Hospital, and Riley Hospital for Children.

  1. Hi Heather

Good luck in your new position.  If you ever need any off-the-cuff advice feel free to contact me either here or my home email is :  saikin@roadrunner.com.

Your new position sounds exciting.  I worked tertiary care, 700+ beds as the night guy.  It was the best blood bank job.

    Dave
