    I was born in Graz, Austria, received my PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Karl-Franzens University in Graz in 1991, the same year I got married and had our first son, had the second son in 1993 and moved to Vancouver the following year. I joined Canadian Blood Services in 1998 and became a clinical associate professor with UBC, Department of Pathology & Lab Medicine in 2006. As a scientist I am passionate about platelets, how and why they are immune cells and hemostatic cells and what happens when people get sick.
