On all of our giveaways we give to all donors who register and it varies from drive to drive how many deferrals we end up with. We have had tickets to a local hockey game before and usually what they do is give us a coupon for the tickets I think. We have to stamp everything as "non-transferable" now and add the donors name to coupons as well.

I work at a blood center here in Alaska. We have a hard time at our hospitals (I like your prize idea for the department that brings in the most donors I will have to try to find something like that for my next hospital drive). The Mobile thing they are talking about might be something like our coach or "LIFEmobile." It is a big motorcoach just like a motor home or school bus that has been outfitted for blood donation. It is actually a very useful tool for blood collections. Most of our mobile drives prefer the coach a lot of the time. We have offered a lot of different incentives and I think the ones that work the most are generally the ones that offer some kind of free advertising. So if someone is willing to have a giveaway AND advertise it that might make a big difference. As a recruiter my life is all about trying to figure out how to bring in more donors and it is incredibly difficult sometimes. If you don't want to go mobile finding businesses that want to hold "in house blood drives" can be an option as well. Also, government employees generally get 4 hours of time off for blood donation so maybe if someone has contacts in local offices that could be helpful. Those are just a few ideas from my experience.
