  1. When I took over as the supervisor at my current facility, I realized they were putting antibodies in the computer as well as keeping up with their manual antibody cards. We are performing a computer back-up daily and I am trying to get rid of the antibody cards. The antibody cards were updated to the computer during the last software update, but I am reviewing them all again anyway just to double check. Question: I have found some old antibody cards that have a name and antibody, but no medical record number or date of birth. In performing a name search in the computer, I cannot usually find these individuals as they have never returned. The majority of these are from the 1970's. How did your facilities handle entering old antibody cards, if you remember? Would you keep these old 1970's cards and make the techs review them during the patient's history review or just box them up and discard them after 10 years? Thanks in advance for any input. mld123
  2. Yes, I am leaving the Fetal Screen Kit but am getting rid of everything else. I am hesitant to get rid of the comparison on the Kit just in case someone else inspects us next time that is doing this.
  3. I contacted CAP today and they stated that the lot to lot comparison does not apply to any transfusion service related reagents including kits. I specifically asked about the Fetal Screen Kit and they said it is not required. I may change our procedure to only the kits and not any of the other reagents just to be on the safe side. thanks!!
  4. Anyone doing lot to lot comparisons for Blood Type and Antibody Screen reagents? If so, do you have a form you would be willing to share? I took over from another supervisor who started the staff performing lot to lot comparisons, but there is no procedure or form they are currently using. They are taking the normal daily QC sheet and highlighting the new vs. old lots they used. Thanks in advance for any help with this. Also, if you are not doing lot to lot comparisons have you gotten dinged from CAP? My previous employer had an inspection where this was a hot button issue at the time. I just want to make sure I am doing it correctly. mld123
  5. I am interested in your opinion of the Manual Gel as well. I am holding off on order new Ortho Worstations for Gel. I have not heard great things about the new design and I am looking at other options.
  6. Thanks for the welcome and your responses. No washing or adding IgG in the procedure from the previous supervisor. The whole thing just seems weird to me and I am going to change it back to Anti-D at immediate spin only. Thanks again!!
  7. New Supervisor here and new to the site. I took over a Blood Bank recently where the previous supervisor was there a long time. They are performing Anti-D typing on their Rh Negative units by incubating the Anti-D tube at 37 C for 15 minutes and then spinning and reading. I have never done this in the 25 years I have been working in the Blood Bank. Do you see any reason to continue this practice? mld123
