  1. We rotate ours out every morning and are able to use the entire bottle without a mold problem. I would wonder if the refrigerator isn't harboring it somewhere and that's the problem, not the diluent itself.
  2. We made our own QC for Provue and had very minimal problems. I have continued to made my own QC for Vision with no problems as long as I am picky about the quality of plasma I pool and use. Can't have any hemolysis or lipemia. I do have the ability to edit QC results on the Vision and this is helpful of course. I know our rep and Ortho in general were very very pushy about buying their QC, saying it wouldn't work and "nobody does that". I beg to differ since about half of my training class DID in fact make their own. It is a huge savings to make your own for sure!
  3. We recently have discovered a Bg antibody in a patient who is about 30 wks pregnant. I'm having trouble finding much literature on this so that I can communicate with her caregivers what exactly it is and where it comes from. She was transfused 17 yrs ago and says this is her first pregancy. I know it is not generally considered clinically significant.
  4. We are considering implementing computer XMs with our new Cerner Blood Bank system. I am under the impression that the retype for an electronic crossmatch must include a backtype retype? We currently don't perform backtype testing on any of our patient retypes, which are performed in tube.
