Is there such a product as dried red cells? This information in this question / answer was generously provided by AABB. Any errors are those of the site admin, not AABB. Mention of specific products or equipment in this AABB publication does not represent an endorsement of such products by the AABB, nor does it necessarily indicate a preference for those products over similar competitive products. Efforts are made to have publications of the AABB consistent in regard to acceptable practices. However, they may not be. As new developments in the field of relationship testing occur, changes may be recommended to the AABB Standards for Blood Banks and Transfusion Services. However, It is impossible to revise each publication when such a change is adopted. Another update: After I sent the experiment results I got an email for the rep to refund me of all my hemo-trac purchases and for me to find another product being that their product is not performing as intended and for my needs. They also emphasized that these are mainly for transport and not intended to be left on its in storage (although that is allowed per the manuf. insert). I think they should adjust their marketing strategy. So, @JOJOER I think at this point I am going to look at cooler temp loggers instead. Possibly Max Connect or LogTag. In the long run, these are one time purchase +annual recal and that will be a fraction of the price we're currently spending having to replace sticker indicators or switching back to safeTvues. *Rant incoming* Is it just me or has options for blood bank specific products in general really dwindled across the past 10 years? Now, it's almost "This is what you get, you have to use THIS." Want a blood irradiator? Here's your 2 options. Want a blood kiosk? Hate haemonetics? Too bad, this is what you get.

If I remember correctly most of my FDA inspectors carried around the CFR Title 21 and did most of their inspection while constantly referring to it, primarily those sections referring to blood bank but sometimes they were looking at other sections as well. It's been too long for me to remember the specific sections. I went through CFR21 and highlighted the areas I thought were most important and prepared for them. I actually had one FDA inspector who was a SBB and knew what they were talking about. She did our inspection so we could get a license to ship blood products interstate. That was the best inspection I ever had in 30 years of supervising blood banks.
