  1. For many years we have been using borosilicate glass tubes (12 x 75mm and 10 x 75mm) with a patch for writing on them to perform our blood bank testing that needs to be done in tubes. We currently purchase ours from Kimble-Chase - item numbers are 60A10BZW and 60B12BZW. As companies have merged over the years I guess things have changed because one of our blood bankers recently noticed some very small print above the barcode on the box of tubes that says: "For Research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures." I would consider blood bank testing performed in tubes to be a "diagnostic procedure", so we've gone in search of an alternate vendor for glass tubes with…

Have any of you checked out the Antibody Identification Software at www.AntibodyCheck.com? If you NEVER again want to spend hours searching pages of panel antigrams for select cells you should look into it. It is reasonably priced (believe it or not) and has saved us in the last 3 years countless hours of Tech-time.

We are opening a small county hospital (1,000 bed) and have only two local blood center options. Is there a option besides NBE to look for alternative blood supply?

Where are you getting brass weights re-certified? We have a set from Troemner and the only company I can find so far is Troemner themselves.

  7. I brought this up many years ago to one of the Reagent Manufacturing Companies (cannot recall now which one it was....Immucor, Gamma or Ortho....or maybe one of the ones that is no longer around). When changes are made to Manufacturer's Inserts (and they can be as minor as a change in 1 word, which we can spend a long time searching for), it would be really nice if the Manufacturer would indicate the changes on the inserts (i.e. maybe italicize what is changed; or underline it; or highlight it......just give us a clue)! We want to catch the significant changes, but not spend an hour reading and re-reading the insert to find the ever-so-subtle and non-significant chan…

Currently, my 200 bed regional hospital 45 minutes outside a metropolitan city uses Immucor Series 4 which contains MS201 and MS26 clones. I'd like to change vendors due to pricing. We only do weak D testing on cord samples or the rare investigation into a strong positive Fetalscreen sample or prior type discrepancy. I want to make sure we choose the most appropriate cost effective reagent for our hospital population. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to choose in the hospital setting? Maybe some pro's and con's for the different clones? Feedback on reactivity strength, etc? I'm considering the Bio-Rad blend.

Are there any labs out there that would process and store cord blood units? for a fee. We are looking to partner with someone who could do this while we establish our business locally.

Hi, I am looking for the catalog number and vendor for the little blue, plastic, disposable hemostats that are used in most blood banks and donor centers when preparing components or splitting units. They come in a case of 1000 ea. Thank you for your response. Sarah

We are getting erroneous reactions on this panel. Lot DN034. Passive Anti D that gives 3-4+ rxns on Ready ID and the 3 cells screen give nothing on cell 14 of ext II. We've also had some known antibodies give weird reactions especially cell 1. Anyone else out there like us? I have not called Immucor yet.

We are developing software for a automated blood analyzer used for grouping and typing. I am trying to find out more details on what customers in a blood bank expect when interfacing with an instrument to an LIS such as a Cerner, SunQuest, etc. I really appreciate your time and comments: Do customers expect an LIS interface on day one when a new instrument is installed or is it more typical for the LIS interface to be phased in because of validation requirements? Are most hospital LIS setup to use the ASTM 1394-97 protocol? Is utilizing a shared network folder between the LIS and instrument an accepted implementation? Do patient sample tubes always have a barcode label…

Hi, This is my first post. I have enjoyed this website and have learned so much. I have recently replaced a Dade immufuge with a Heittech(Helmer) centrifuge. The techs have complained they can't pick up 3 tubes at a time due to the spacing between the tube holders. Has anyone exchanged rotors with a Heittech? If so, what manufacturer and model number did you use? Thanks, Judith

  16. Recent published statements about Hema Trax have been plain "mean spirited" and untrue. We feel it is appropriate to quote these statements and respond. "First-ever label-printing software compatible with any thermal printer" Sounds good! However; Digi-Trax has chosen to support Sato and Zebra; two of the leading world class printer companies. Both have stood the test-of-time while many have failed over the last 15 years. We have chosen industrial strength models to function reliably in your "Mission Critical" environment. Good assets last and the cost is depreciated. "Computype & NiceWare International LLC" Two companies to deal with, and then you buy printe…

Hello, I am in a statistics class and we are using statistics from work for a cost analysis paper. I am comparing the manual tube blood banking to the Immucor Echo. I am needed some TAT statisitcs for the Echo. I am trying to perform an ANOVA calculation, but only have pre-analyzer statistics. Is there a vendor out there that could share Echo TAT statistics. I know there is a consistent TAT for a type and screen, but I need real numbers to plug into the excel worksheet. Please attach a link or I can send you my email.

Does anyone have an idea on what is the current pricing and/or recommendation for a blood irradiator for a small volume transfusion service. The estimated number of units per month requiring irradiation is 40 units a month. Does anyone know of a U.S. vendor/distributor for the Nordion products? I have submitted an inquiry on the Nordion website inquiring about pricing but have yet to receive a response.

  23. I working on a study where we would be interested in understanding the top 10 institutions in the US with patients that meet the criteria below (1) ≥20% and ≤50% blasts in bone marrow, as well as peripheral blasts ≤50% and absolute blasts <1 Gi/L. (Both Type I and Type II blasts will be included in blast count.) (2) A platelet count is <30 Gi/L. Do you know of any companies that have this information and might be willing to sell a report?
