Qualifications: Experience in laboratory work or blood banking desirable; use of application software, including data entry, desirable; excellent communication and customer service skills; must be be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Description: Basic Job Duties/Requirements:  Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of Immunohematology testing personnel and reporting all Immunohematology test results.  Responsibilities include scheduling, supervising staff, managing projects, ensuring compliance with FDA and other oversight agency regulations, following cGMP’s, developing and maintaining vendor/customer relationships and integrating operations with other blood bank processes as appropriate.  Will be directly involved with test results, advanced component preparation (freezing, deglycing, washing of red cells), rare unit inventory and utilization of antibody positive units.    Must have at least three years experience in Immunohematology testing and services.  Supervisory and blood center experience is a plus.  MT (ASCP) and BB or SBB highly desirable.  Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.

Provides a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem solving skills. Responsible for start up, calibration, maintenance and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Performs Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent computer systems. Demonstrates comprehension of theory and clinical reference tests. Recognizes validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results and communicates variances to appropriate individual. Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. Responds to customer inquiries for laboratory results, test requirements, and other laboratory information. Provides cursory resolution to customer service complaints and appropriately forwards unresolved issues timely. Accesses patient test results using the laboratory information system as requested. Determines the status of patient testing using the laboratory information system. Exercises independent judgment, and can identify appropriate resources. MT/MLT certification throught ASCP or AMT or specialty certification in assigned department. Associate degree required; Bachelor degree preferred. This position is in the Blood Bank Transfusion department.  This will be a 7 on 7 off (Wednesday night to Wednesday Morning Position)  Hours are Monday-Friday 2230-0830 and Saturday-Sunday 2200-0830. We have proudly served donors and patients in partnership with our community for over 65 years.  As a recognized leader in transfusion medicine, the Blood Center operates the world’s largest Transfusion Service, which serves patients in more than 70 hospitals and 21 clinics in Western Washington.   We are seeking an experienced Manager to provide proactive leadership for the quality, customer service, education, and staff development processes within the Transfusion Service (TS).  Collaborating with TS Director and other department and Blood Center management, this position plans, directs, and executes relevant goals from the Transfusion Medicine Program strategic plan.    Most time in this newly created position is expected to be spent in managing the department’s quality programs. Responsibilities will include maintaining overall compliance through the communication of new and updated regulations and standards applicable to the manufacture and issue of blood components, serving as a liaison for FDA laboratory inspections and developing timely responses, maintaining the Transfusion Service Quality plan, error occurrence management and coordinating preventive and corrective actions, collecting and reporting error trend data.  Using A3 planning methods and Lean Principles, the Manager will recommend and participate in the development of process improvements based on data collected from error monitoring, external inspections and internal audits; facilitating improvement initiatives to their completion.   Additionally, the Manager will develop an annual customer service plan for Transfusion Medicine Program, liaise with Business Development department to ensure TS representation in account management, employ appropriate tools to assess customer satisfaction and predict their future needs, coordinate with the Transfusion Safety Office and medical staff to provide support to hospitals, and facilitate the customer Intersecting Circles of Quality (ICQ) meetings for PSBC.  In the area of Education and Development, responsibilities will include constructing an annual department plan, overseeing agreements with external educational affiliates, assuring training systems and programs are meeting the needs of the TS department and customers and supporting training on relevant quality topics.  The Manager will directly and indirectly supervise staff in areas of Quality, Customer Service and Education & Development in TS.   The requirements include: baccalaureate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; MT(ASCP) and SBB preferred; five years experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities, in Transfusion Service or a similar clinical laboratory environment; minimum of five years supervisory experience with demonstrated expertise in managing people and departments.  A business background, compliance, customer service, and training experience strongly desired.
